The Caged Bird and Melinda

The bird is like Melinda in many ways. For Melinda, school is like the cage for the bird. Her "friends" put her down and tease her about everything. In the poem, the bird's feet are tied and it can't get to freedom even though he screams for it. Melinda wants freedom from these people but does not know how to get there.

  1. Hello Mallory, I am an education major at The University of South Alabama. I really like how you compared Melinda to the caged bird. I used to watch the movie Speak all of the time when I was younger. I sincerely hope that high school, and the students attending, start to change. Bullying is a terrible and cruel thing. I went through it when I was in high school and I know many others are having to go through it every day. If you see someone being bullied, be there for them and show them that they do matter.
